Landlords warned of cannabis factories

The National Landlords’ Association is warning landlords on the dangers of cannabis factories in their rental properties, adding they have a responsibility to make sure they are aware of what is going on inside their property. The NLA says the damage caused to a property used as a cannabis farm can be ‘catastrophic’ with internal walls removed, and repairs running into tens of thousands of pounds.

One in three private landlords has a tenant in arrears

Meanwhile, one in three private landlords have tenants in arrears, the National Landlords Association has revealed. The research found that during the past six months, 44 per cent of landlords have experienced rental arrears, and when faced with arrears, only 50 per cent of landlords attempted to recover the loss of earnings through the courts.

Landlords expecting increase in rent arrears

Nearly three-quarters of landlords are bracing themselves for an increase in the number of tenants falling behind in their rent according to the National Landlords’ Association (NLA). Most landlords thought that rent arrears will increase next year as the economic situation worsens and unemployment rises, and just over a third said they were already experiencing payment difficulties with tenants.
